Sony and Panasonic to develop a 300GB optical disc
Sony and Panasonic have agreed to work together to develop a new standard next-generation optical disc. The optical disc will have a capacity of over 300GB which would have six times more capacity than the current popular Blu-ray standard or equivalent to over 60 DVDs.
Physical media and associated hardware sales are in decline which is mainly due to the emergence of faster broadband that makes media downloading and streaming possible in acceptable qualities and downloaded games offering easier access than going to the store or waiting for it in the mail.
