ZTE a Chinese multinational telecommunications equipment company, has unveiled the Axon 7, the successor to last year's Axon flagship. ZTE Axon 7, just like its predecessor offers high-end specs and materials at a fraction of the cost.

The smartphone boast Qualcomm's highest-end processor the Snapdragon 820. You can choose between 4 or 6GB of RAM. It is equipped with a quad HD AMOLED display, a metal chassis, quick charging, and a new dual-speaker system with Dolby surround sound.

Usually, smartphone with similar specs runs for around $700 and upwards, however ZTE promises that the new smartphone will cost under $500 when it arrives in the US in the coming weeks.

The Axon 7 improves its design and display. It is designed by a BMW's DesignWorks firm, it now have a full metal unibody with rounded corners and edges, that's nice to hold. It comes in two colors gold and grey.

The display is a significant improvement from the previous flagship phone, it is now equipped with a 5.5-inch AMOLED panel with the aforementioned 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution and curved edges. It's protected by a Gorilla Glass 4. The colors are rich and vibrant and the contrast levels is outstanding.

It will come in two variants the Axon 7 64GB model with 4GB of RAM and the 128GB version with 6GB. ZTE said that they are not yet committed in offering the 128GB version in the US. Both versions have microSD slots for expansion.

Both variants are powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 processor clocked at 2.2GHz and have 3,250mAh batteries with Qualcomm's QuickCharge 3.0. The company said that the quickcharge system gives you 50% charge level in just 30 minutes of charging or a full charge in 100 minutes.

Camera wise, the Axon 7 boast a 20-megapixel main camera with OIS (optical image stabilization), f/1.8 lens aperture, and 4K (30fps) video capability. The phone's front selfie-camera has 8 megapixels of resolution. A USB Type-C port is used for data transfer and charging.

The sound system has a dual-speaker setup with both on the front of the phone. It provides stereo sound and can copy surround sound environments. It was really impressive.

The Axon 7 will run on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, and ZTE says it will be upgraded to Android N when that is made available later this year.

The 64GB model with 4GB of RAM will cost about $450, while the 128GB version with 6GB is a bit pricier at $640.

The ZTE Axon 7 will work with AT&T, T-Mobile, and related MVNOs when it launches, though ZTE says it will also work with CDMA carriers such as Sprint and Verizon once it receives technical approval from them. Once it hit the market it’ll be available through ZTE’s online store, Amazon, Best Buy, B&H, eBay and Newegg, and will be sold with a free 2-year warranty.
